theName Community Rules
_Draft — counsel to confirm. Version 1 · Last updated: [date]._
theName is for everyone, everywhere. These are the rules we all follow so it stays safe and honest.
One set of rules, everywhere
There is one set of Community Rules for the whole world. A country can add a stricter rule where its law needs one; it is never looser. Content that is illegal only in one country is blocked in that country, not removed everywhere.
How we check
- Our AI checks every public item — and every private post — before it goes live or into search. When it is unsure, a person decides.
- People always decide the serious cases: child safety, government and court orders, and appeals.
- Chats and calls are end-to-end encrypted. We can't read them. We act on what you report and on behaviour such as spam.
What happens when a rule is broken
Depending on the rule, we may label it, keep it out of recommendations, show it to adults only, block it in one country, or remove it. You'll be told which rule, and why.
Breaking a rule can add strikes to your account. Strikes go away after 180 days. The ladder:
- 1 strike — a warning.
- 2 strikes — 24 hours without posting, commenting or messaging people you don't know.
- 3 strikes — 7 days without posting, commenting, selling or messaging people you don't know.
- 4 strikes — the account is paused for 30 days.
- 5 strikes — the account is closed.
Some rules, like child sexual abuse, sextortion and payment scams, close the account straight away.
If you think we got it wrong
Tap Ask us to look again on the notice within 30 days. Someone who wasn't part of the first decision will review it. Decisions on child sexual abuse can't be appealed.
In India you can also complain to our Grievance Officer.
Reporting
Every post, comment, profile, Space, message and listing has Report. You can also use legal.thename.app for intimate images, copyright and complaints — no account needed.
The rules
[The rule list is generated below from the rulebook: each family, each rule's title, what it says, examples of what isn't allowed and what is fine.]
