Where to send a notice

  • Online form: legal.thename.app/copyright
  • Email: copyright@thename.app
  • Designated agent (United States, 17 U.S.C. 512(c)(2)): Copyright Agent, TNAP PLATFORMS PRIVATE LIMITED, 43 Residency Rd, Bangalore – 560025, Karnataka, India · copyright@thename.app · [phone] · [U.S. Copyright Office DMCA directory number — to be registered]

What your notice must include

  1. Your physical or electronic signature (a typed full name is fine), as the owner or someone authorised to act for the owner.
  2. The work you say is copied. For many works on one page, a representative list.
  3. The link to each item you want removed, so we can find it.
  4. Your name, address, phone number and email.
  5. A statement that you believe in good faith the use is not authorised by the owner, its agent or the law.
  6. A statement that the notice is accurate and, under penalty of perjury, that you are the owner or authorised to act for the owner.
  7. For India, also: details showing you own (or exclusively license) the work; why the copy infringes and is not a permitted use; the uploader, if you know them; and your undertaking to file an infringement suit in a competent court and give us its order within 21 days (Copyright Rules 2013, rule 75(2)).

Notices missing these may not be acted on. We may share your notice (with your contact details) with the person who posted the item.

What we do

  • India: if we are satisfied the copy infringes, we disable access within 36 hours for 21 days, and show a notice saying why. If no court order reaches us within 21 days, we may restore it (Copyright Act section 52(1)(c); Copyright Rules 2013, rule 75).
  • United States and everywhere else: we remove or disable the item promptly and tell the person who posted it (17 U.S.C. 512(c) and (g)).
  • Content illegal only in one country may be blocked in that country only.

If your post was removed by mistake — counter-notice

Send a counter-notice to copyright@thename.app or through the form, with:

  1. Your physical or electronic signature.
  2. What was removed and where it was before.
  3. A statement, under penalty of perjury, that you believe in good faith it was removed by mistake or misidentification.
  4. Your name, address and phone number, and a statement that you consent to the jurisdiction of the U.S. federal district court for your address (or, if you are outside the United States, any judicial district where we may be found), and that you will accept service of legal papers from the person who sent the notice.

We send your counter-notice to the person who sent the notice. Unless they tell us within 10 business days that they have gone to court, we restore your item 10 to 14 business days after we receive your counter-notice (17 U.S.C. 512(g)). In India, the 21-day rule above applies.

Repeat infringers

Three copyright removals that stand within 180 days close the account. Each removal also counts on our strike ladder.

Please don't misuse this

Knowingly false notices or counter-notices can make you liable for damages (17 U.S.C. 512(f)). Fair use, fair dealing, quotes for review or news, and work you have a licence for are not infringement.

Trademarks and counterfeits

These are not copyright. Report them in the app or at legal.thename.app under "Counterfeit or trademark".
