Removing Intimate Images Shared Without Consent

theName.app — operated by TNAP PLATFORMS PRIVATE LIMITED.

_Draft — counsel to confirm. Last updated: [date]._

If a nude, sexual or intimate image or video of you is on theName without your consent — including a fake, edited or AI-made one — we will remove it. You don't need a theName account to ask.

How to ask

  • In the app: on the post, profile, comment or message, tap Report › An intimate image of me.
  • Online form: legal.thename.app/intimate-images. We send a one-time code to your email to confirm it's you.
  • Someone you trust (a parent, a lawyer, a support organisation) can ask for you. They should say they are acting for you.

What to tell us

  1. The link to each image or video, or the @name of the account that posted it. Please don't send us the image itself.
  2. A short statement that the image shows you and was shared without your consent.
  3. Your name (typed is fine) as your signature.
  4. How we can reach you.

What we do

  • We hide it at once while we check, in every country.
  • We remove it within 2 hours of your complaint in India and within 48 hours of a valid request in the United States. We aim to be faster everywhere.
  • We look for copies of the same image on theName and remove them, and we keep a fingerprint so it can't be posted again.
  • We act on the account that posted it, and close it for sextortion or repeat sharing.
  • The person who posted it is told which rule they broke — never who asked.

In chats

Chats are end-to-end encrypted, so we can't see them. If someone sent you an intimate image of yourself or threatened to, report the message: your report shares that message with us, and we act on the sender's account.

If you are under 18

An intimate image of anyone under 18 is child sexual abuse material. We remove it, close the account and report it to the authorities. You won't be in trouble for telling us. [NCMEC's Take It Down service (takeitdown.ncmec.org) can also help stop it spreading on other sites — link to confirm before publishing.]

If someone is threatening you

Don't pay and don't send more images. Report it to us and to the police.

  • India: National Cyber Crime Reporting Portal cybercrime.gov.in, helpline 1930.
  • United States: your local police; for under-18s, NCMEC's CyberTipline (report.cybertip.org).
  • [StopNCII.org can help adults stop images spreading on other platforms — link to confirm before publishing.]

The law behind this

  • India: Information Technology (Intermediary Guidelines and Digital Media Ethics Code) Rules 2021, rule 3(2)(b), as amended in 2026 — removal within 2 hours of a complaint.
  • United States: TAKE IT DOWN Act (Public Law 119-12), section 3 — removal within 48 hours of a valid request, with known identical copies.
